My Favorite Places
Here are a few of my favorite links to the wide world of the world wide web. (Try saying that ten times in a row!) My interests range from the fun to the bizarre to the functional to the wacky! I'll add more links as I find them (and remember to bookmark them!)
ANIME
- The AnimeOnline Network: A great source of reviews and other anime information.
- The Anime Quik Guide: This is an awesome intro for beginners (like me!) to the world of anime.
- Anime Shrine: This website still needs a bit of work, but it's got a lot of good links and info.
- The Hayao Miyazaki Web: Chock full of information about this amazing creative genius behind Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Kiki's Delivery Service, and others.
- The Last Unicorn: Okay, I love this movie. And I thought this was a very well-written article about it.
- The Anime Critic: This guy is right on! He's critical, but very fair... accurate suggestions abound!
- Anime on DVD: Great place to look for new discs for my collection. <ggl> I feel so silly saying that. Ah, well. :)
- Sumire's Anime Birthday Calendar: Anime birthday? Huh? A fun little site that made me laugh.
STAR WARS
Movie links:
- TheForce.net: Who needs anything else? The ultimate website for the Star Wars junkie.
- The Official Star Wars Website: Surprisingly, this is a comprehensive site filled with fun tidbits and good information.
RASSM:
- The Official RASSM Homepage: This was actually my introduction to RASSM way back when Trory managed it... Gosh, that was in June of 1997. Now it's a great source for RASSM stuff.
- Shaven Wookie, Ltd: The unimitable Chris Hawkin's tribute to the greatest pasttime ever... shaving wookies. I'm proud to say that I know this guy. And I'm proud to say, yes, he's that weird.
- usher's RASSM Pages: Home of the birthday list and other cool things.
- #rassm Hall of Shame: Okay, it's about a year old and all of the pictures are outdated, but still. This was *my* generation of #rassm.
MUSIC
Bands:
- The Orange County Supertones: The Supertones will always hold a special place in my heart. The Supertones Strike Back was the first ska CD I ever bought and absolutely loved. This band is definately still up near the top of my favorites list.
- Five Iron Frenzy: Five Iron Frenzy is the coolest! Their music is rocking, with a beautiful horn section. On their EP Quantity is Job 1, you'll find the funniest "opera" you'll ever hear...
- The Insyderz: Skallelujah! and Skallelujah Too! are the two best praise CDs, ever. Such great songs like, "In the Secret," "We Will Glorify" (my personal favorite), and "Lord I Lift Your Name on High" are included on these two CDs.
- Secret Agent 8: This is a local Houston band that has the best horn section I've ever heard. We're talking two trumpets and two trombones! Wow. The self-titled debut is fabulous.
- Dance Hall Crashers: DHC has a unique sound, with two female lead singers. Actually my favorite CD of theirs is an EP called The Blue Plate Special... a great bargain at five bucks!
- Agent 99: Unfortunately this band broke up '95, but you can hear the wonderful vocals of Dunia Best on their collection of songs called Little Pieces: 1993-1995.
- Mephiskapheles: Okay, I know, it's a Satanic ska band, but really. ;) They are *so* good... I love "Finnigan Froth" and "The Bumble Bee Tuna Song."
- The Aquabats!: Everyone needs caped crusaders in their life. These are mine... <sigh>
- Not For the Crowd: "Vamonos" is the best NFTC song, imho. I was introduced to this band on a great compilation called Bettie Rocket's SkaCraze.
- More coming soon!
Music Reviews, News, Zines, and Record Companies
- Rudenet: This is a place with lots of reviews of CDs and other pretty decent ska news.
- Derek's Page o' Ska: It's no longer updated regularly, but it's got a great list of ska bands.
- Moon Ska Records: A great independent label with tons of cools stuff!
- Tooth and Nail Records: Home of MxPx, Squad Five-O, and ghoti hook... all three are very cool bands.
- Shanachie Records: Not only ska, but jazz, latin, reggae, and celtic music is found here.
- Five Minute Walk: I love most of the bands featured! Go FIF!
- Nerve Beats & Breaks: Good source for electronica and techno reviews.
- Astralwerks Records: More electronica stuff. :)

- Hardcore Music Alley: Nice background info on hardcore (electronica) music with a great links page!
- Houston Straightedge and Hardcore Page: Good stuff on the local scene. Decent links for you Straight Edgers out there.
FRIENDS
- Broadway Bomb Squad: Okay, this band has some of my favorite people in it. Boomer, Wolfie, Jay Fender, and Podge are *so* cool. Strangely enough, I never can seem to hear them play...
- Conduit: A friend of mine, Chris B., is lead guitarist. Never heard *them* play either. Hm.
- No Excuse: This is Andrew's band! Wow! Three in a row... (I guess I'm bad luck or something. No one lets me hear them) Anyhoo, *three* trombones. Not bad. (update: I heard them. Okay, they're good. Okay, they're really good)
- My Side of It: Ian's outdated website. Still, it has some good poetry and that sort. Fun to look at. :)
- before: Okay, I'm friends with a sibling of a bandmember. But I've heard their demo, and these guys *rock*... count me as a new fan!
- Texas Film Posse: Ian's newest endeavor... a resource for young Texas filmmakers. Nice page, contribute if you can. :)
- Stay tuned for more websites!
HUMOR
- Scott Pakin's Automatic Complaint Letter Generator: This is my secret weapon... possible one of the funniest things on the web.
- Anarchy Youth: One of these days, I'll try a couple of these suggestions at school. But until that day, I'm free to dream.
- MIT IHTFP Hack Gallery: The interesting pranks of geniuses... It's cool.
CAR STUFF

- UV115.com: Cool clothes! Nice people, too... go here for shopping needs!
- Houston Public Library's Online Catalog: Yeah, a weird site to put on here, but this is where I go when I need more info. My local branch is only five minutes away! :)

- Blue Mountain E-Cards: This is a good alternative to E-cards.com. I love both.
