Death of Boredom III-
Poor Phineas
By Sailor Seiji

        "Phineas!  You stupid idiot!"
Darker Shadow looked up as Ebiru ran by.  "What did he do now?"
"He destroyed everything!"  Ebiru stopped long enough to show her brother the book that she held in her hands.  The completely soaked book.  Whatever had spilled on it was disintegrating the pages and the ink was running on the ones that were left.  "He spilled his stupid coffee on my research journal!  All my spells, all my experiments, gone!"
"Research journal?  Don't you mean your dairy?"  Ebiru shot him a Look of Death™ that would rival Kasei's.  "I mean, you can't just redo the experiments?"
"Not until I kill the little vermin!  Where is he?!"
Darker Shadow pointed down the hall.  "I saw him head that way, or at least I think I did.  He was running really fast."
"Thanks."  Ebiru started running in the direction that he had told her.  "I'm gonna get him back if it's the last thing I do."

Phineas had finally lost Ebiru.  Just to be safe, he headed to the other side of the castle.  This part was filled with long, windy staircases and creepy rooms that nobody used anymore.  Except for one person.  As Phineas walked along, he came upon Athene's room.
"Weird.  I don't think I've ever been up here before." Phineas looked around.  Ancient vases and other relics were set up neatly around the room.  A whole wall was made into bookshelves, and on these were scrolls and old, leather-bound books.  At the end of a four-poster bed was an elaborately carved, wooden trunk.
"Hummm..."  Phineas peeked in to see if Athene was there.  "Oh well, nobody home.  Athene would let me in if she was, though.  I'm sure of it."
As he walked around the room, he noticed the trunk.  "I wonder what's in here?"  Phineas looked around once more to see if Athene was back yet, and then sat in front of the trunk.  He tried to open it, but a large padlock hindered his progress.  "Stupid lock."  Phineas hit it with little energy blast, but the lock wouldn't break.
"Damn, it must have a spell on it!  What's so important that she needs to lock it up?"  Phineas checked on the dressers, but no key was in sight.  He sighed and started to pull out the drawers.

Athene was in the library when Ebiru walked in.  "Did you find him?"
"No, he's hiding from me."  Ebiru collapsed on a chair.         "You would think that he would stand out more.  You can see his hair from a mile away."
"Yeah, but he's really good at hiding and he has been wearing a hat lately."  Ebiru was getting tired of making excuses.  "Maybe I'll just wait until Kasei calls a meeting.  Then Phineas will have to come."
"That would work."  Athene picked up her book and headed to the door.  "If you need me to hold him down for you, I'll be up in my room.

"At last!"  Phineas held up a key.  "Victory is mine!"
He stepped over the piles of clothes and such that he had thrown on the floor.  "Now to see what's in this thing."  As Phineas lifted the lid, a cloud of dust arose from the trunk.  He waved it away and peered in.  In the trunk was a pile of...
"Books!  She locks up her books!"  Phineas picked one up and flipped through the pages.  It was filled with Athene's neat script.  "Another diary?!  What's with these girls?!"
Phineas was about to put it back when he heard footsteps coming toward the room.  "Awww shit!"  He quickly teleported away just as Athene walked into the room.
        "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Athene looked around in shock.  "My...my room."  The place was a mess.  All the books and scrolls were out of order, clothing was everywhere, and some of her vases were broken.
"Who could have done this?"  Athene stepped over the piles of debris, surveying the damage.  As she walked further into the room, Athene noticed the open trunk.  "Nooo!!!"

After making numerous amounts of small teleports within the castle, Phineas found himself in the really deserted part of the castle.  Completely exhausted, he sat down against a wall to catch his breath.
"This is bad, this is the worst possible thing that could happen right now."  Phineas thought about the other times that he had been in trouble and shuddered.  "I'm dead."
He leaned his head back against the wall and shut his eyes.  After a few moments, Phineas realized that he still had the book with him.  "If I'm going to die, I might as well see what this is before I go.  Hell, it might be interesting."
The first entry was dated in the late 1400's.  It went on and on about some normal stuff, missions and new spells and the like.  "Boring."  Phineas flipped though it, trying to find something interesting.  He was about to shut it when an entry caught his eye.

April 14- After searching the Asian continent, Kasei has finally found where the leader of the Guardians is hiding.  We are making plans to attack them within the week.  If all goes well there will soon be none to stop us.  Happy Birthday Kasei!
April 23- The last of the Guardians has been taken care of. After finding the village we proceeded to destroy it.  They did offer resistance, but they were no match for us.  Kasei ordered everyone killed...

"What?  She's writing about what happened with my family, but that's not how it happened.  Kasei said that Tred killed them."

...except for two.  One Guardian was extremely hard to defeat, so Kasei trapped him in an odd disc-like object.  The other was a little boy.  I still do not know why he was spared.  The only explanation we got was that he had some sort of hidden power that Kasei could use in the future.  She has put the task of training him upon us.  It has been quite easy so far for Kasei has manipulated his memories.

“No!”  Phineas slammed the book shut and threw it across the hall.  “This can’t be true!  Tred killed my family, I know he did!  I can remember it...”  He thought back to what had happened that day.  He could remember when his house had first been attacked, and he could see who attacked them.  He almost feel the heat of the fires and the panic that had overwhelmed them, but nothing else.  Nothing from earlier that day, or the day before.  No early memories, no recollections of being with his family.  I keep saying ‘my family’ but I can’t remember who they were.  Could it all just be a fake memory?
Suddenly, Kasei’s voice filled the castle.  “Phineas!  Come to the throne room, immediately!”
“Shit.  I can’t go back there, they might figure out that I know what they did.”  Phineas’ eyes rested on the book.  “I just need to leave here, I need time to think this over.”
He hesitated for only a moment and then teleported far away, out of reach of Kasei’s powers.
