Part 1: Former Petra vocalist Greg X. Volz was once asked by what popular 80's secular band to become their lead vocalist? Part 2: Dave Amato, who did background vocals on Petra's Beyond Belief album, is now the lead guitarist for what popular 80's secular band? The Answer: Part 1 AND Part 2 are, quite coincidentally I'm sure, the exact SAME band, REO Speedwagon! I know that you're kicking yourself for not knowing that one, but hey, just Keep Pushin' and maybe you'll get the next one...orrrr maybe NOT! This week's Prize Winner is: The following lyrics, "When she woke up...we were dumbstruck by the light...like coming out of a coma...all she asked for was more light," are from what song by what popular group? The Answer: Those lyrics come from the song "Miracle Child" on the Newsboys' brilliant album Take Me To Your Leader! This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winners were: What punk band's guitarist just recently left the band to be an intern pastor for a church's college-age ministry? The Answer: Ghoti Hook's own Conrad Tolosa has left. He hopes that interning will give him a chance to build his professional aspirations of accounting. So there!! This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winners were: What band's bass player was "discovered" while selling merchandise at a Supertones concert? The Answer: Sean Humeston of the band Value Pac is the answer that NO ONE got!!!! John David Herrin, the drummer for alternative band Sheesh is the son of the drummer of what classic Christian metal band? The Answer: John Herrin, John David's father, is the drummer for the Resurrection Band/Rez Band/Rez. This forerunner of Christian Metal bands has been around since the mid-70's. It's cool how his son is taking the baton-so to speak-to a whole new generation! You now have the knowledge...what you do with it is up to you! This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winners were: What four-member band (whose debut disc appeared in 1994), has never recorded an album where they didn't break up in the studio and later get back together? This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winners were: What was the name of the Forefront group Considering Lily before they took their current name? The Answer: Considering Lily was known as Serene & Pearl prior to their Forefront change of name and debut. This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winners were: This band that features a quirky blend of ska, swing, jazz and alternative pop has been named after a small furry pig indigenous to the deserts of the southwest. What's the name of the band? The Answer: The critically-acclaimed Havalina Rail Co. is the band. Havalina is an americanized spelling for "Javalina," a small furry pig which is also a member of the rodent family. There you have it! This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winners were: If you've heard of the game "The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" you'll at least understand how this week's trivia works. First here's the question...How many "degrees" will it take to get from Kerry Livgren to Michael Sweet? For those that don't understand, here's an example: Let's say we were going from Sandi Patty to John Schlitt...You see, Sandi did a duet with John Elefante and John Elefante produces Petra which features John Schlitt on vocals. Remember...there may be more than one way there, I'm just looking for the shortest route! Get it? Got it! Good! One of several possible answers: 1- Kerry was a long-time member of Kansas. 2- John Elefante later fronted Kansas. 3- John & Dino Elefante produced Guardian's "Fire & Love" release. 4- Tony Palacios, Guardian's guitar-slinger, toured as Michael W. Smith's axeman on his "Change the World" tour. 5- Smitty's "i 2 eye" album features Michael Sweet on background vocals on "All You're Missin' is a Heartache." or 1- Kerry was a member of Kansas along with Steve Walsh. 2- Steve Walsh later had another band named Streets featuring Mike Slamer on guitars. 3- Mike Slamer produced Michael Sweet's "Real" album. This week's Prize Winner is: Before becoming famous headliners that sell out nearly all their shows, this California band was known as "Saved" and never played in front of a crowd of more than 50 people! The Answer: The chart-stompin' ska band O.C. Supertones is the band formerly known as "Saved!" Now ya know! This week's Prize Winner is: This week's other winner was: |

The famous cartoon character that Petra drummer Louie Weaver can't live without is none other than that loveable rodent (Should I say his name or boycott it? Oh, what the heck--) Mickey Mouse! No, Kelly, the cartoon characters weren't Rob & Ron, but maybe that'll give someone a GREAT IDEA!! (Hint! Hint!)
The common denominator between old Holy Soldier vocalist Steven Patrick and new vocalist Eric Wayne is Red Reign, which is the Seattle band Eric left to join HS and also Steven's solo effort.
It's Sonny Bono, congressman and the "Sonny" half of the 70's pop duo Sonny & Cher, that appears as a "lip" on one of the Rorschach test cards in the psychologist's office in the "Love My Lips" installment of Veggie Tales' Silly Songs With Larry.
Ex-Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar is a cousin to none other than Ken Tamplin, who has many fine Christian Rock albums to his name including An Axe To Grind, Soul Survivor and Tamplin and also fronted the groups Shout and Magdallan. Keep Sammy in your prayers as Ken and others continue to witness to him. He knows the Truth, but through some unfortunate circumstances, has trouble accepting it.
Villanelle was the band that was the precurser to Smalltown Poets. They had an album out in 1985 entitled Pinwheels and Orange Peels and featured STP's Byron Goggin, Michael Johnston and Danny Stephens. The name Villanelle literally means rural as in small town. A poet, however, knows the villanelle as a form of fixed poetry that is difficult but rewarding to write. So, basically, the band now known as Smalltown Poets meant "small town poets." Coincidence? I don't think so.
The secular band who Bob Carlisle did Background vocals for in 1987 was REO Speedwagon. The album that they were featured on was entitled Life As We Know It (Sound familiar?) and earlier this year they were trying to get Christian Radio to pick up "Building The Bridge," a very positive song that talked about unity and relationships with both family and God. I don't think it went over well, but, hey, it was worth a shot! One popular answer was Allies, which was the Christian group that Carlisle fronted along with new Identical Stranger Randy thomas before going solo in the early 90's.
DeGarmo & Key was the group whose lead vocalist Dana Key is related to the "Star Spangled Banner" composer Francis Scott Key. The group disbanded in the early 90's after putting out great material since the late 70's. Eddie DeGarmo is now part of the creative force behind Forefront Records. Dana, besides being a solo artist is doing some production work for Ardent Records, home of Small Town Poets. It is also a division of Forefront...These guys just can't stay apart.
The group that Jamie Rowe was in before Guardian was Tempest. Jamie's brother Mikk played guitar for the band and they released two albums, The Coming Storm and Eye Of The Storm before disbanding.
The band that Louie Weaver was in as he was becoming part of Petra was called Fireworks and at that time they were one of the hardest rockin' bands on the Christian Music scene. The band was fronted by First Call's Marty McCall on lead vocals and their album, entitled Sightseeing At Night, which turned out to be their last, was their crowning achievement. Unfortunately they broke up soon thereafter and even worse, none of their catalog has ever made it to CD. Ah, but still Life goes on.. |
